What is AMP?

The Administrative Modernization Program (AMP) is a crucial and impactful series of initiatives that we are launching together under Oregon State University's 2024-2030 Strategic Plan, titled Prosperity Widely Shared.

Through AMP, OSU will modernize and simplify day-to-day administrative work, streamline processes and policies, and introduce a new cloud-based Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system, Workday, to replace Banner for Finance and HR. Workday addresses not only the evolving needs of higher education institutions, but the needs and aspirations brought forward by the OSU community to reduce administrative burden for faculty and staff.

Team members across the university will serve as program members to develop and implement new ways of working that break down divisional silos, improve faculty and staff’s access to real-time data and reports, and update administrative processes such as budgeting, payroll, post-award research administration, and recruitment.

Our Workday-enabled transformation will make administrative tasks more streamlined and less time consuming, freeing-up time for faculty and staff to deliver on OSU’s mission with greater impact.

Value and Benefits

Critical to the success of AMP — and the resources we’ll be able to redirect to support the research, teaching, and outreach mission of the University — is the development and implementation of simpler and more efficient administrative practices that leverage the power of technology. AMP is both an organizational and digital journey critical to achieving OSU’s future ambitions.

While there are many benefits and values that AMP will bring to OSU, the most significant impacts are highlighted below.

Improves the OSU Experience

Streamlines administrative processes by reducing time spent on tasks and simplifying day-to-day work.

Provides faculty and staff with a more equitable, inclusive, and accessible transactional experiences with interfaces that meet or exceed our commitment to accessibility standards.

Informs employees and students about available tools, data, and technologies and provide training and support to use them.

Enables data-informed decision making

Provides accurate “panoramic” data and metrics that feed into reliable and timely dashboards and reports to improve our ability to use data to inform decision-making.

Supports data transparency and accountability across the university.

Allows for quick and accurate decision-making and swift distribution of information.

REDIRECTS RESOURCES TO SUPPORT MISSION-ORIENTED WORK

Modernizes technology in a timely fashion to reduce the cost of outdated, burdensome systems and allows the university to focus resources on core OSU missions.

Streamlines business functions and processes such as payroll and accounts payable options making it easier for people to interact with systems and automate tasks such as reporting and analytics, time entry, and HR “self-service” capabilities.

Reduces maintenance cost for legacy technology and positions the university to be agile and adapt quickly.

Automates and simplifies processes to allow day-to-day work to be performed more efficiently and effectively.

SUPPORTS THE BROADER OREGON COMMUNITY

Aligns with OSU's outreach mission and leadership roles as Oregon's statewide university by serving as a model for institutions in Oregon and beyond that may seek similar transformative efforts.

Our Planned Approach

This work begins with evaluating our business processes and making improvements as needed based on the customer journeys we aim to accomplish. An approach like this will require significant organizational change management, a willingness to work together across and outside the organization, and a commitment to equity and inclusivity as we design solutions for a broad and diverse collection of customers and community members.

We are not taking on this ambitious work alone — OSU is partnering with implementation partners who specialize in higher education work to support us we embark on this transformational vision. We will record everything we do in our work to help and advise other Oregon institutions who might pursue similar transformative efforts.
